Is Chandigarh Manali Highway Blocked? Portions of the Highway Washed Away Latest News: Raging Beas River has washed away many stretches of the Chandigarh-Manali Highway, ANI reported citing Kullu Police.
In the video footage shared by the news agency, some portions of the roads have been completely washed away, making travel impossible.
The development comes after incessant rainfall in the state for the past few days. Further warnings have been in the state with red alert issued in several districts.
According to a report by the Times of India, many stretches of the Chandigarh Manali highway between Kullu and Manali have been washed away, also causing damage to several hotels and restaurants on the intervening night of August 25 and 26.
The report added that the highway stretch at Bindu Dhank near Manali has completely disappeared. Also, a portion of the highway has been damaged in Raison. The traffic, therefore, is being diverted at Raison to the link road on the left bank of the Beas River.
Leh Manali Highway is also blocked as the Beas River in spate has washed away a portion of the highway at Vashisht Chowk near Manali.
All educational departments in several districts of the state remained closed on Tuesday in view of a red alert issued in the state by IMD.
