Faridabad, Haryana Explosive Recovery News: Police in Faridabad have arrested a doctor and a Muslim cleric in connection with a large quantity of IED-making materials and ammunition recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police during an investigation yesterday, ANI reported on Monday.

The cleric's wife told ANI that the arrested doctor is from Jammu and Kashmir, while “Imam Sahib” has been serving at a mosque for the past 20 years.

"The Police have taken away Imam Sahib. I don't know why he has been taken away. The Police never came to us before...Imam Sahib has been serving at the mosque for the past 20 years...The doctor used to come here five times a day, every day to offer namaz. He hailed from Kashmir..." the cleric's wife told ANI.

The couple has four children together, and the family was having a meal when the police entered their home, the wife told ANI.

Faridabad Commissioner of Police Satender Kumar, while addressing the media, said it is an ongoing joint operation between the Haryana Police and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The police officer confirmed that the recovered explosive materials are not RDX.

"It is an ongoing joint operation between Haryana police and J&K police. An accused, Dr Muzammil, was nabbed. 360 kg of inflammable material is recovered yesterday, which is possibly ammonium nitrate. It is not RDX..." Faridabad CP Satender Kumar said.

The operation is still underway. “The nabbed accused taught at the Al-Falah University here..." he added.

Additionally, one assault rifle with three magazines and 83 live rounds, one pistol with eight live rounds, two empty cartridges, two additional magazines, eight large suitcases, four small suitcases, and a bucket containing approximately 360 kg of inflammable material have also been recovered. “It is suspected to be ammonium nitrate. 20 timers with batteries, 24 remotes, approx 5 kgs of heavy metal, walkie-talkie sets, electric wiring, batteries, and other contraband material have been recovered,” Faridabad CP Satender Kumar added.

Faridabad CP Satender Kumar clarified that the weapon is not an AK-47 but an assault rifle. “It is like AK-47 but slightly smaller than it. But it is not AK-47..." the police officer added.

Search operation by Haryana Police is currently underway in Fatehpur Taga in Faridabad, about 4 km away from the location where the arrested Kashmiri doctor, Muzammil, used to come to offer namaz, ANI reported.

According to the Indian Express, the recovery followed the arrest of another doctor identified as Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, a Kashmiri doctor tracked down to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly pasting posters supporting the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar on October 27.

During the media address today, Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta shared that during interrogation, Adil Ahmad Rather disclosed information that led the police to Dr. Mujammil Shakeel (also referred to as Mujahil Shakil or Muzammil Shakeel), the doctor from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, who is employed at the Al-Falah Hospital in Faridabad.

Muzammil had rented a house in Dhauj about three months ago. He was arrested yesterday, and cache was seized from his residence in a coordinated raid.

Additionally, earlier,  J&K police had searched Rather’s locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag, where he worked as a senior resident until October last year, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

Rather has been booked under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, it added.

Investigations are underway to determine the intended use of the explosive materials recovered close to Delhi.
