Who is Harpreet Kaur Babla ? Know all about new Mayor of Chandigarh: Harpreet Kaur Babla, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been elected as the new Mayor of Chandigarh in 2025. At 60 years old, she is the daughter of a retired army colonel and resides in Sector 27, Chandigarh. Harpreet Babla is also the councillor of Ward No. 10 (Sector 27-28-29) in the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. She is married to former councillor Devinder Singh Babla.
An alumni of Convent of Jesus and Mary, Dehradun, Harpreet holds a BA (Hons) in History and an MA in English. She has been elected as a municipal corporation councillor twice. Her political journey began with the Congress party, but she switched allegiance to the BJP after her re-election in 2021.
The mayoral election saw a vicious contest between Harpreet and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Prem Lata. The BJP fielded Harpreet Kaur Babla for the mayoral post, while the AAP-Congress alliance nominated Prem Lata.
