Chandigarh Likely to Witness Another Dry November After Rain-Free October

Chandigarh Weather Update Latest News: Following a completely dry October, November appears set to end without any rainfall, marking one of the driest months in recent years for the city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted no rain over the next 10 days, indicating that this November will mirror the rainfall deficit of 2022, when no precipitation was recorded. Over the past decade, this will be only the second November without any rain in Chandigarh.

Western Disturbances Weaken

Surender Paul, Director of IMD Chandigarh, attributed the lack of rainfall to the absence of active Western Disturbances (WDs), which typically bring rain during this time of year.

"This season, we haven’t seen any significant WDs. They have either been too weak or passed north of the region," Paul explained.

Director General of Meteorology Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, during a recent visit to Panjab University, noted a gradual weakening of WDs over the years. Originating as tropical storms near the Mediterranean Sea, the intensity and frequency of these disturbances remain challenging to forecast, according to IMD officials.

Temperatures Remain Above Normal

The prolonged dry spell has also contributed to higher-than-normal temperatures for November. In the past week alone, daytime temperatures fluctuated significantly, rising from 24.1°C on November 17 to 28.8°C on November 24, after a brief dip midweek.

With no rain in sight and warm days persisting, November is poised to conclude on a similar dry and warm note as October, reinforcing concerns about changing weather patterns in the region.
