Nek Chand’s Masterpiece at 50: Chandigarh’s Rock Garden Set for Grand Golden Jubilee Tomorrow
On January 24, the world-renowned Rock Garden, an iconic landmark of Chandigarh and a global symbol of artistic excellence, is set to celebrate its golden jubilee. According to the report, the event celebrates five decades of the garden’s legacy as a unique creation of Padma Shri Nek Chand, who transformed waste materials into a world-class tourist destination.
The golden jubilee celebrations will officially commence with the lighting of diyas and a floral tribute at the wax statue of Nek Chand. The ceremony will be led by the chief guest, Mandip Singh Brar, Home Secretary-cum-Chairman of the Rock Garden Society, in the presence of UT engineering officials and other dignitaries.
The festivities will feature a variety of public-orientated activities, including musical chairs games and singing competitions for visitors.
A major highlight of the milestone celebration will be a series of folk dance performances held at Phase III of the garden. In collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre, the programme will showcase traditional dances such as Bhangra, Ghoomar, Sirmouri Nati, and Mayur Nritya.
These cultural events are designed to honour the five-decade legacy of the garden, which remains one of the city's most significant symbols of creativity and perseverance.
