Chandigarh: 3 Gangsters Arrested in Encounter in Sector 32 Chemist Shop, Taxi Stand Extortion Cases

Chandigarh News: Acting on a tip-off, Chandigarh Police on Wednesday arrested gangsters involved in extortion cases in the Union Territory. The arrests were made after an encounter broke out on Wednesday morning between the police and the accused in Sector 39.

Following the incident, police and CFSL teams arrived at the spot near Sector 39, where the encounter took place, to carry out the investigation.

The arrested accused had earlier opened fire at a chemist’s shop in Sector 32, Chandigarh.

In Wednesday’s encounter, two accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs, while another accused was taken into police custody. The injured were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Chandigarh DSP Dhiraj Kumar told news agency ANI, “There was an incident of firing at a pharmacy in Sector 32, in which an extortion angle emerged. Today’s encounter concerns that.”

“We had information that the shooters would be around this area. When we noticed their car here, they tried to fire at the police party. During counter-firing by the police, two accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs. One accused is in police custody. The injured accused will be interrogated in detail,” the DSP added.

The injured accused have been identified as Rahul and Ricky, while the third accused was driving the car.

According to sources, the owner of a taxi stand told the police that he had received a phone call demanding an extortion amount of Rs 50 lakh. The caller identified himself as gangster ‘Saba Gobindgarh’.

The gangster threatened that the money should be arranged immediately, failing which the owner would meet the same fate as the firing incident at the pharmacy store in Sector 32. He also stated that he knew how the police and the system work in Chandigarh. Acting on the tip-off, the police carried out the operation.
