Budget 2026 and the Common Citizen: Chandigarh Discussion Highlights Key Budgetary Shifts

The BJP Chandigarh Intellectual Cell organised a panel discussion on Friday titled “Union Budget 2026: From Economic Policy to National Policy.” The event, held at Rajasthan Bhawan, focused on explaining the budget's impact on common citizens and linking economic decisions to daily life. According to the report, the discussion was part of a nationwide outreach effort to highlight the government’s fiscal roadmap.

Convenor Dr Monica B. Sood stated that the 2026 Budget prioritises job creation, self-reliance, and inclusive growth, with technology and innovation serving as primary drivers. Speakers at the event noted a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and advanced skills, asserting that future global competition will centre on data.

To support this, the budget proposes 15,000 advanced technology labs and promotes STEM education for girls by providing hostels in every district to increase access.

The panel also discussed infrastructure development through high-speed rail corridors and national waterways, alongside support for MSMEs and start-ups. Speakers identified defence manufacturing and affordable healthcare as major engines for employment and growth.

"The discussion wrapped up with speakers describing the budget as a comprehensive roadmap for national growth on the global stage."
