Chandigarh Set for Mega INR 1,000 Crore Makeover: Key Projects That Will Redefine the Skyline

Chandigarh is undergoing a major infrastructure development with an investment of over INR 1,000 crore. More than 25 projects are ongoing, about to commence or in advanced planning stages that focus on reshaping the city’s skyline and civic landscape.

According to UT Chief Engineer C.B. Ojha, the portfolio covers key domains such as education, healthcare, sports, policing, roads, justice, mobility and administrative buildings, each with defined budgets and timelines to ensure delivery.

In education, new hostel blocks and academic extensions are planned at GMSSS schools and PEC campuses, including a 103-room boys’ hostel and a research scholars’ hostel at PEC, alongside classroom and vocational expansions.

The health sector will have a critical care block in Manimajra and MBBS hostels at GMCH-48, while a Mother & Child Care Centre in Sector-32A is scheduled for completion.

To boost sports infrastructure, an FIH-approved astro-turf hockey ground in Sector-18 and a major sports complex in Sector-42 are planned.

Policing and justice facilities include upgraded police stations in Sector-49 and Mauli Jagran, plus model jail expansions and parking facilities at District Courts in Sector-43.

Roads and urban mobility projects cover an elevated road on Madhya Marg and a pedestrian subway connecting PGI and Panjab University. A new DC office building and CTU bus depot in Raipur Kalan are also part of the administrative upgrades.

Together, these initiatives signal a decisive push to strengthen Chandigarh’s civic infrastructure and future-readiness.
