Save the Children announces the appointment of Deepak Kapoor as the new Chairman of its 12-member Governing Council. He succeeds Harpal Singh, who has been the Chairman since 2009 and has completed a decade's service on the Board. "It is my proud privilege to take on the exciting new opportunity at a time when the organization is embarking upon a fresh and extremely ambitious strategy for 2019-2021," said Kapoor.

He also added, "While Save the Children has established itself as India's leading child rights organization during the last decade, the Governing Council believes that we now need to rapidly accelerate our programmes to reach every last child who is deprived of rights across our vast country." Kapoor has been a member of Save the Children's Governing Council since 2017. Kapoor was previously the Chairman and CEO of PwC India (until March 2017) after having been associated with the organization for 39 years. During his illustrious career with PwC, he served in various leadership and client service roles in India and overseas and was also a member of the PwC Global Strategy Council.

He also served as the Chairman of PwC India Foundation which has done major rehabilitation work following the floods in Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Chennai, as well as the Nepal earthquakes. Save the Children has impacted the lives of about 7 million children since 2010, when it became an independent entity in India. It now aims to touch the lives of 5 million children over the next three years.
