Both the varieties of sugar strengthened at the Vashi wholesale market here today following consistent demand from stockists and bulk consumers amid restricted supply from millers, after the government announced Rs 8,500 crore package for the beleaguered sugar mills and farmers. Small sugar (S-30) climbed by Rs 78/70 per quintal to Rs 3,060/3,122 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 2,982/3,052. Medium sugar (M-30) also advanced by Rs 80/92 per quintal to Rs 3,110/3,312 as against Rs 3,030/3,220.
Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets: Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,060/3,122 (Rs 2,982/3,052). Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,110/3,312 (Rs 3,030/3,220).
