Mangal Pandey on ASHAs in Bihar Latest News updates: ASHA health worker plays an important role in the health sector and represents the community as a volunteer. Through ASHA, information about all types of basic and essential health services related to public health is delivered to every home. This is the reason why ASHA has become the backbone of the health system.

With the help of ASHA, the number of prenatal checkups has increased, as a result, the number of home deliveries has been reduced and safe institutional deliveries have been promoted. Through home visits, various types of health care of the newborn, high level nutrition, vaccination, ORS, IFA are provided in every village.

Distribution of pills, distribution of contraceptives under the family planning program and information related to its use, prevention of various diseases like malaria, dengue, AES, filariasis, leprosy, tuberculosis etc. under the disease control program, door-to-door public awareness regarding diseases like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure under the non-communicable disease program taking a terrible form in the society, help is being provided in bringing change in the behavior of the people and providing first aid with their kit.

Therefore, to increase the morale of Asha, under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the leadership of Health Minister Mangal Pandey, in the year 2019, the Health Department made a provision of a reward amount of Rs 1000/- per month as honorarium for Asha and from time to time the incentive amount payable under various programs has also been increased.

With the aim of further encouraging Asha, which is the basic foundation of the health system, it has been decided to increase their reward amount from Rs 1000/- to Rs 3000/-.  Apart from the honorarium, Asha is given various other facilities such as Rs. 13,180/- for smart phone, Rs. 200 per month for mobile recharge, Rs. 2500/- for two sarees per year, Asha diary, umbrella, home based child care kit (containing thermometer and other essential items).
