Rahul Gandhi: Voter Adhikar Yatra Successful; People Joining Organically

Rahul Gandhi: Voter Adhikar Yatra Successful; People Joining Organically Latest News: Leader of Opposition in the lower house and Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, who along with RJD leader Tejasswi Yadav and the leaders of the INDIA bloc, launched ‘Voter Adhikari Yatra’ in Bihar a week ago, has reached Bihar’s Araria today as per the schedule of the 16 days long yatra which is expected to cover over 1300 km.

On the eighth day, the yatra was resumed in Bihar’s Purnea district on Sunday.

The yatra was launched from Bihar's Sasaram on August 17, against the alleged ‘vote theft’ through the special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in the poll-bound state and to ‘protect the most fundamental democratic right - ‘one person, one vote.’

In the 16-day-long yatra, there are three breaks in between as per the schedule, and the second break comes tomorrow.

Today, Rahul Gandhi, in a joint press conference with Tejashwi Yadav and CPI (ML) from Bihar’s Araria, called the yatra a success and said that people are joining it ‘organically’.

Rahul Gandhi, speaking at the joint conference, said,“The yatra is very successful and people are coming organically. It is clear that whatever we said about vote theft, crores of people of Bihar believe and accept it. That is why you are seeing this response.”

He alleged that the Election Commission has failed to do its duty in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka and added that he would not let that happen in Bihar.

He said, “The work of the Election Commission is to provide the correct voter list and they did not do this in Maharashtra, Haryana and Karnataka. Our entire pressure is to change the behaviour of the Election Commission and we will not leave it. We will not let you steal the election in Bihar. You stole in Maharashtra. You stole in Haryana. In Karnataka, we clearly showed that votes were stolen. We will not let it happen here."

A media person, putting forth a question to the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, said that there appeared to be good coordination, as RJD party workers were seen carrying Congress party flags and chanting ‘Rahul Gandhi ki Jai’, something, he said, never seen before. Additionally, the media person referred to an earlier remark by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who had rooted for Rahul Gandhi’s prime ministership if the alliance comes to power next time, adding that they believe in Rahul Gandhi’s ability to protect the Constitution and democracy.

In response, Rahul said, "A very good partnership has been formed between us, all parties are working together, there is mutual respect, ideologically we are aligned, politically we are aligned, there will be very good results, but vote theft must be stopped."

Speaking further at the press conference, Lop Rahul Gandhi said children of Bihar have become politically active and that children of the state are coming to him during the yatra and tell him in the ear, ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhodd'. He called it an interesting phenomenon and that the ECI should think about it.

"A very interesting thing is coming out, which was not there in the last two yatras. Children are coming. It is a very strange phenomenon. They are coming to me. They are saying 'Vote Chor Gaddi Chhodd'. These are not adults. They are small. Now, a small child of six years has come to know. And not just one, thousands. Now, the Election Commission should go and talk to these children. They will get to know...The children of Bihar have become politically active..." Rahul Gandhi said.

Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, talking about the alleged ambiguity in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision, said,” This process is so difficult, whether it is adding votes or removing them through a complaint, there is still no clarity in this process.

Earlier today, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav rode motorcycles along with their supporters. A large number of people have shown up in support.

The yatra, which is expected to cover 20 districts in the state, will culminate on September 1st in Yatra Finale, Patna.
