Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Sunday said he was concerned over the unrest in Bangladesh, noting that the developments were taking place in India’s neighbourhood.

He said that India, being a democratic country and one of the largest nations in South Asia, has certain responsibilities, and added that the government should have taken some “proactive” steps.

“I am also worried that when an atmosphere of chaos developed there, we were not even aware of it. There were some proactive initiatives that we should have taken. In the entire South Asian region, we are the largest country and also a democratic nation, and this places certain responsibilities on us. There was at least one step that we should have taken proactively,” Manoj Jha said while speaking to news agency PTI.

The RJD leader urged the government to keep a close watch on such situations of “anarchy”.

Meanwhile, the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Bangladesh announced that visa operations at IVAC Chittagong will remain suspended from 21/12/2025 until further notice due to a recent security incident at AHCI Chittagong.

The IVAC said that an announcement regarding the reopening of the visa centre will be made after reviewing the security situation.
