Bihar Politics Latest News: The politics of proportional representation based on population (jiski jitni sankhya utni bhagidari) has now been established in Bihar and across the country. Therefore, it is essential that all political parties in the state, especially the two major alliances—BJP-JDU-led NDA and RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan—allocate 50 percent of their tickets to women in the 2025 Bihar Legislative Election. Additionally, both alliances should announce women candidates for the Chief Minister position in the upcoming Bihar election. This demand was raised by Pushpam Priya Choudhary, President of The Plurals Party (TPP), during a press conference held today at Hotel Maurya in Patna.

She stated that if Nitish Kumar can reserve 50 percent of seats for women in panchayats and municipal bodies, why can’t he and other political parties allocate 50 percent of tickets to women in the legislative election? She further noted that the NDA government has already provided 35 percent reservation for women in government jobs, so they should take the lead in this initiative as well.

Pushpam Priya Choudhary emphasized that the time has come for Bihar to have a woman Chief Minister. In the past 77 years, out of 23 Chief Ministers in Bihar, only one was a woman, and that too under special circumstances. She urged that a woman, regardless of her political affiliation, should be declared as the Chief Minister candidate and should become the Chief Minister. Referring to the Mahagathbandhan’s “Mai-Bahin Maan Yojana” (Mother-Sister Respect Scheme), Pushpam Priya Choudhary stated that a woman Chief Minister would be better equipped to decide how much financial support women should receive monthly for their dignity.

Citing Rahul Gandhi’s statement, she pointed out that many people consider Bihar’s caste-based census to be fraudulent, leading to disputes over the population figures of different castes. However, it is undisputed that women constitute 50 percent of the population, and they should receive their rightful share. Only then can we believe that male leaders have genuine intentions. She added that, in light of rising crimes against women and the need for their respect and safety in Bihar, it is crucial that the next Chief Minister of Bihar be a woman.

Pushpam Priya Choudhary claimed that in the 2020 election, her party fielded the highest number of women candidates in Bihar’s history. In that election, the NDA, which contested all seats, gave tickets to only 37 women (15 percent), while the Mahagathbandhan allocated tickets to just 24 women (10 percent). In contrast, The Plurals Party, contesting for the first time, gave tickets to 42 women out of 148 candidates (28 percent). Ms. Choudhary announced that in the upcoming election, her party will field at least 122 women candidates, setting a new milestone in the electoral history of the country.

During the press conference, Pushpam Priya Choudhary also informed that her party has secured the “Whistle” election symbol from the Election Commission to contest all 243 seats in Bihar. She clarified that this is not an ordinary whistle but the whistle of the engine of development, the opening of factories, the call for students to schools and colleges, the victory in sports fields, the enforcement of strict laws by the police, the whistle-blowing against corruption, and ultimately, the whistle of a victorious and empowered Bihar. She stated that her party will contest the election with this slogan.

She further promised that if her government comes to power, she will establish a 5,000-acre Special Economic Zone in every district and fill Bihar with industries. Just as Lalu Prasad focused on social justice in his first five years and Nitish Kumar focused on roads and electricity, she will prioritize establishing a large number of factories in Bihar during her first five years.

Anupam Kumar Suman, former Special Secretary to the Chief Minister of Bihar and now General Secretary of TPP, who was present at the press conference, shared that, learning from the last election, the party is quietly focusing on building its organization at the booth level for the upcoming election. Work has been completed at approximately 20,000 booths so far, and by the time of the election, the party will have a strong presence at all 80,000 booths. He added that the candidate selection process has already begun, and a detailed candidacy application form has been issued. Under no circumstances will tickets be given to individuals with criminal cases. Instead of focusing on all 243 seats, the party will make special preparations for 100 seats. The goal this time is to ensure TPP’s presence in the Assembly.
