India Has ‘Unique’ AI Edge: Cognizant Says 30% Code Now Generated by AI
Cognizant is rapidly increasing its focus on artificial intelligence, with nearly 30 per cent of its code now being generated using AI tools, signalling a major shift in how software is being developed.
Despite this rise, the company’s Chief AI Officer Babak Hodjat believes human expertise will remain critical. He said AI may assist in writing code, but professionals are still needed to design complex systems and ensure the accuracy and reliability of outputs produced by machines.
Highlighting India’s position in the global AI landscape, Hodjat described the country as being in a “unique” spot due to its strong technology ecosystem and a large pool of digitally skilled workers. This combination, he noted, puts India in a favourable position to accelerate AI adoption across sectors.
He also stressed that programmers who effectively use AI tools will have a clear advantage over those who do not. At the same time, individuals with a deep understanding of systems and workflows will be key to implementing AI solutions in real-world scenarios.
As part of its broader strategy, Cognizant is positioning itself as an “AI maker,” focusing on helping other enterprises integrate and scale AI technologies efficiently.
