Govt Bans Oral Medicines Containing Nimesulide Above 100 mg with Immediate Effect

The Government of India has banned the manufacture, sale, and distribution of all oral formulations containing Nimesulide above 100 mg in immediate-release dosage form.

In a notification issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 29 December 2025, the government stated that the said drug is likely to pose a risk to human beings and that safer alternatives are available.

The painkiller has been banned across the country for human use with immediate effect.

The decision was taken after consultation with the Drugs Technical Advisory Board.
