Unexpected Danger: Consumption of Cabbage Raises Concerns Over Epilepsy and Brain Diseases

Health News Latest

Health News Latest: Recent revelations by BHU professor Dr. Vijaya Nath Mishra shed light on a potential health hazard associated with cabbage consumption, emphasizing that cabbage worms, if present, do not succumb to cooking temperatures. The revelation underscores the importance of taking precautions to avoid health risks related to these persistent insects.

Insects Survive Cooking: Reality Check for Cabbage Lovers

Contrary to popular belief, Dr. Vijaya Nath Mishra through a latest tweet dispelled the notion that cooking cabbage eliminates the risks associated with the insects it may harbor. These insects, if not addressed properly, could lead to health issues, including epilepsy or other brain-related diseases. The professor warned that the worms found in cauliflower are resilient to cooking temperatures and can pose health threats if consumed unknowingly.

Dr. Vijaya Nath Mishra wrote that the information has been derived by the research of Department of Neurology, PGI Chandigarh, Dr. Manish Modi. He took various samples of Cabbage from different parts of Punjab and Chandigarh for the research.

Precautions Advised: How to Safeguard Against Cabbage Worms?

To mitigate the risk posed by cabbage worms, Dr recommends soaking chopped cauliflower in warm water with added salt for approximately 30 minutes before cooking. This precautionary measure, he suggests, should be extended to other ground-grown vegetables like potatoes, radishes, carrots, and capsicum. The soaking process is intended to make the insects float on the water, allowing for their removal before consumption.

Benefits of Cabbage

While the cautionary advice highlights potential risks, it is crucial to acknowledge the nutritional benefits of cabbage. Rich in vitamins C and K, among other nutrients, cabbage is known for promoting heart health, aiding digestion, reducing the impact of radiation, and providing protection against various types of cancer. Balancing the potential risks with the nutritional value, Dr. Mishra urges consumers to adopt precautionary measures to enjoy the benefits of cabbage without compromising their health.

As awareness of the risks associated with cabbage worms grows, adopting proper food preparation practices becomes essential for individuals seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
