Chhindwara Drug Inspector Ajeet Kumar Jain, speaking to ANI, stated, "As you all know, the children died due to the syrup that was found to contain a poisonous substance during the investigation. Based on this, the remaining stock at the shops is being confiscated today."

“Currently, confiscation is ongoing at this shop, which has a stock of 248 bottles,” the inspector added.

Inspections are ongoing at various places, he said.

“Presently, only this product of the company has been banned, but the other products are also under investigation,” Drug Inspector Ajeet Kumar added.

The Madhya Pradesh government has banned the sale of Coldrif cough syrup following the death of 14 children in Chhindwara due to suspected renal failure, with officials stating the drug samples were found to contain a highly toxic substance, according to PTI.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has also initiated risk-based inspections at the manufacturing units of 19 drugs, including cough syrups and antibiotics, across six states, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.
