Punjab News: Over 23 Lakh Senior Citizens Receiving Support Under Old Age Pension Scheme; “Our elders are our pride”

The Punjab Government has released Rs 2,400.70 crore under the Old Age Pension Scheme so far in the current financial year, according to a press release issued by the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab, on October 26.
The press release cited Dr. Baljit Kaur, Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, who stated that over 23 lakh beneficiaries have received financial assistance under the scheme.
Dr. Kaur further noted that the State Government has allocated a total budget of Rs 4,100 crore for the scheme in the current financial year to ensure that every eligible senior citizen receives their entitled pension on time.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government deeply values its senior citizens and is fully dedicated to upholding their respect and dignity. She added that the pension scheme is not merely a form of financial assistance but also a symbol of the government’s responsibility and honour towards the elderly, the release stated.
The Minister also directed officials to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their pensions promptly and without any delays or lapses, remarking that “Our elders are our pride.”
She reaffirmed that the state government remains committed to ensuring that the benefits of the scheme reach all deserving senior citizens efficiently and transparently.
