Karnal: Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today served an ultimatum on the government for waiver of farm loans by August 8. They said that they would start boycotting public representatives, including ministers, MLAs and MPs, from August 9 if the government failed to do so.
Meanwhile, the members celebrated the release of farmer Jaswinder who reportedly set his faulty transformer on fire.
While chairing a kisan mahapanchayat at Shamgarh village in the district, Rattan Mann, state president, BKU, said that the farmers would launch a protest for loan waiver from the land of Raja Karan on August 9. “The farmers play a vital role in the development of the country,” he said. The farmers would oppose programmes of the political leaders if the government failed to waive farm loans from August 9, he said.
