Sonepat: Paying rich tributes to Bhagat Phool Singh on his 75th martyrdom day, Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain said the Kanya Gurukul started by Bhagat Phool Singh with 17 girls in 1937 in the forest area of Khanpur Kalan village in the district had developed into Bhagat Phool Singh (BPS) Mahila Vishwavidyalaya.
She was addressing a the programme organised to commemorate the ‘Balidaan Diwas’ of Bhagat Phool Singh and 103rd birth anniversary of Bhagat Phool Singh’s daughter and Padmashree awardee Subhashni Devi on the university premises.
“This is only the university for women in north India and has established its special identity for women education in the country,” she said.
In his welcome address, university’s Vice-Chancellor SP Bansal said that besides laying stress on employment-oriented education for girls, special courses for character development, self-defence and value education would be started in the university.
