Ambala The police have booked farmers, including Gurnam Singh Charuni, BKU (Charuni) chief, who blocked National Highway-1 in Ambala on Friday. Sources said a case had been registered against 32 farmers and over 100 unknown persons for blocking the highway for nearly two hours.

Suresh Kaushik, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said, “A case has been registered under the National Highways Act and the IPC. Strict legal action would be taken against the people who had blocked the highway.”

A large number of farmers led by Charuni had blocked NH-1 in Ambala on Friday to press for the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s report and farm loan waiver. “The police have been doing its job. Let the police register cases, but we would not end our agitation,” Charuni said.
