Rohtak: Leader of the Opposition in the Haryana Assembly Abhay Singh Chautala has given an ultimatum to the Central government to get the Supreme Court order on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal implemented by July 9.

“We have been requesting the government to implement the apex court’s orders regarding the SYL canal. If the Central Government fails to take a concrete action in this regard by July 9, our party workers will stop Punjab vehicles, barring emergency-service vehicles, entering Haryana on July 10,” he said while addressing mediapersons here today.

The INLD leader said the BJP government had no empathy with the concerns of people and its top priority was to implement the agenda of the RSS. He castigated the BJP government for imposing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on agricultural implements. He said the ‘kisan panchayats’ being organised by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was a ‘political drama’.

Thousands of acres of agricultural land was handed over to builders and big industrial houses during the Hooda’s tenure as Chief Minister. Abhay said there was a tacit understanding between Hooda and the state BJP leadership, as evident from the indirect support by Congress MLAs to Subhash Chandra in the Rajya Sabha elections. He alleged that Subhash Chandra was Hooda’s business partner. The INLD leader visited Gopaldas and supported his campaign for cow protection. He appealed to Gopaldas to end his fast and make cow protection a mass movement.
