Chandigarh: Thousands of commuters from Punjab entering Haryana had to take longer and lesser-known routes during INLD road blockades over the SYL issue today.

INLD workers gathered at five places — the Lalru-Ambala stretch on NH-1, Shambhu border on NH-1, Narwana-Dhanauri border, Ratia-Budhlada road and Dabwali.

The protests passed off peacefully as the authorities diverted traffic through alternative routes under a strategy chalked out during a meeting of senior police officers of Punjab and Haryana two days back.

Hundreds of INLD workers started assembling at the sites in the morning and continued sitting along the road on these five sites till 3 pm.

The party had announced that its workers would give flowers to commuters as a goodwill gesture, but could not do so since no vehicle came close to blockade sites.
