Karnal: The police have arrested four employees of a cash-supply company for stealing money from ATMs. The accused have stolen nearly Rs 2 crore. The accused have been identified as Mandeep Singh of Nigdhu village in the district, and Parveen of New Moti Nagar, Charanjeet of Ramnagar, and Munish of Gandhi Nagar in the city. Mohan Lal, SHO, Civil Lines police station, said two more accused, Kapil of Gandhi Nagar and Ravinder of Kalsaura, were yet to be arrested.

Sandeep Kumar, deputy manager, Secure Value India Ltd, had filed a complaint with the police on July 14 that they had collaboration with more than 10 banks to fill money in their ATMs, but six employees had kept the money with them instead of putting it in the ATMs.

Following the complaint, Superintendent of Police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa directed the Civil Lines police to inquiry into the matter.“We have registered a case under Sections 408, 420 and 34 of the IPC and started investigation,” said the SHO.

He said the accused were arrested on July 28 and they were produced in a court which sent them in three-day police remand. “We have recovered Rs 16 lakh from their possession,” he said. During investigation, the accused had revealed that they used to keep some of the amount from the ATMs before filling them.

He said that one of the accused once needed Rs 4 lakh and they all stole money from the cash of the ATMs. Later, they adjusted the cash during demonetisation, the SHO said. But after the demonetisation, they again stated pilfering money and had so far stolen nearly Rs 2 crore from the ATMs, he said. The accused had formed two groups and during audit of the ATMs, one of the groups used to shift the money from the ATMs which were already audited, to other ATMs, he said.
