Farmers have been demanding implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report and complete loan waiver. Gurnam Singh Chaduni, core committee member of the Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh and state president of the BKU, criticised the government for not fulfilling the promises it made during the parliamentary and Assembly elections.

He said the BJP had promised to implement the Swaminathan Commission report, but even after three years, farmers had been waiting for its implementation. He said the government should waive off loans of farmers.
