Chandigarh: The Chandigarh-Ambala Highway between Zirakpur and Lalru wore a deserted look at places though a few vehicles were seen plying at other places today due to road blockade by INLD workers at Saddopur.
Police have diverted vehicular traffic before the flyover at Dera Bassi and at Lalru and Dapar villages.
The police had blocked the flyovers and road at these places by placing barricades and the policemen were asking commuters to take the alternate routes.
Outside a petrol pump near Saddopur, Anuradha and her sister-in-law Anita were seen waiting for an auto-rickshaw to reach Lalru.
Hundreds of INLD workers were seen sitting under a tent installed by the roadside at Saddopur village. The protesters included a large number of women. State INLD chief Ashok Arora headed the protesters there.
Party workers raised slogans as Abhay Chautala, whose helicopter landed at a little distance from the dharna site, arrived. “I have come here to congratulate you, because you have blocked roads peacefully without causing any hardship to people,” Abhay said.
