Sonepat: Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang has sounded an alert following the release of more than 1.50 lakh cusecs of water into the Yamuna from the Tajewala headworks. He has directed the police to step up vigil on the riverbanks.

The water level in the Yamuna in the district was recorded at around 1.35 lakh cusecs today. Residents of villages located near the riverbanks have been cautioned not to enter the river and also keep their cattle away from it.

The Irrigation Department is also maintaining a round-the-clock vigil on the riverbanks and all arrangements have been made to meet any emergency-like situation. However, the situation is likely to improve as there has been no rain in the last 48 hours.
