Historic Record: Indian Tractor Sales Cross 10 Lakh Mark for First Time Ever

The Indian tractor industry has achieved a remarkable milestone, with domestic sales crossing the one-million-unit mark for the first time in history. According to data from the Tractor & Mechanisation Association (TMA), domestic sales soared to 10.9 lakh units in 2025, marking a robust 20% growth compared to 9.1 lakh units in 2024.

"This surge is attributed to a combination of favorable conditions that have bolstered rural sentiment and farm cash flows. Key drivers include:

  • Favourable Monsoon: The 2025 southwest monsoon concluded at 108% of the long-period average, supporting high crop yields.
  • GST Rate Cut: A critical reduction in the GST rate on tractors to 5% (effective October 2025) made machines more affordable, saving farmers between INR 40,000 and INR 100,000 per unit.
  • Export Rebound: Tractor exports also crossed the 1-lakh-unit milestone after a two-year gap.

2025 has officially become the strongest year on record for the industry, with domestic volumes and exports both making new records. This growth signals a healthy recovery in the rural economy.
