MGNREGA, Punjab News: A protest of Congress leaders, led by MP Raja Warring, is currently underway in Mohali, Punjab, over issues related to the MGNREGA scheme, demanding effective implementation, timely wage payments, and adequate allocation of funds to safeguard rural employment and workers’ rights, news agency PTI reported.
Earlier today, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told the media that the party has instructed its members in states across the country to conduct demonstrations against the VB-G RAM G Bill, a replacement of the MGNREGA.
Later in the day, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, defending the bill, said, "...Earlier, there was a guarantee of 100 days of employment. We have increased it to a legal guarantee of 125 days. Not only that, the proposed budget has been raised from Rs 88,000 crore to Rs 1,51,282 crore."
Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the statement while speaking to the media.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday said the state government will convene a special Assembly session on the MGNREGA issue in the second week of January.
