Well, it is true. 'Bhakshak' is based on the Muzaffarpur Women’s Shelter Case in which Brajesh Thakur and 11 others were sentenced to life imprisonment for physically and sexually assaulting several minor girls.

Bhakshak Movie Based on True Real Events and Story:

'Bhakshak', featuring Bhumi Pednekar and Aditya Srivastava in the lead roles, is inspired by the Muzaffarpur Women's Shelter Case of 2020. Aditya Srivastava is playing the role of Bansi Sahu, a character who is inspired by Brajesh Thakur, the mastermind of the real-life case.

The incident came to light when the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) presented a report to the Bihar government on May 26, 2018. This brought attention to the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls in the shelter home for the first time.

On May 29, 2018, the Bihar government relocated the girls from the shelter home to other protective facilities. On May 31, 2018, an FIR was filed against 11 accused in the case. After over 3 months, the Supreme Court on on August 2, 2018, acknowledged the alleged sexual assaults on over 30 minors in Muzaffarpur's shelter home and transferred the investigation to the CBI on November 28.

The shelter home was operated by Brajesh Thakur, the former Bihar People's Party (BPP) MLA. He was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault under the POCSO Act and gang rape. He is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction by a Delhi court in 2020.

The film is all set to premiere directly on Netflix on February 9.
