From Superstardom to ‘Small Artist’: Arijit Singh Quits Film Playback at the Peak of His Career
Popular Bollywood singer Arijit Singh has left the music industry and stunned fans by announcing his retirement from playback singing at the absolute peak of his career. While the vocalist first shared the news on his social media accounts, he later elaborated on the decision.
“There isn’t one reason behind this; there are several reasons, and I have been trying to do this for a long time,” Singh shared in a post. “So here’s the thing: I got bored,” he wrote and gave a reason for his habit of constantly changing song arrangements during live performances.
Reflecting on his journey, Singh expressed deep spiritual gratitude, stating, “God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist.” He concluded his message by thanking his listeners for their years of support.
“I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” he said.
He clarified that he will fulfil his existing pending commitments. While no new film projects will be signed, fans can expect his final recorded tracks to release throughout 2026.
Arijit Singh’s journey began with the 2005 reality show Fame Gurukul, followed by his 2011 Hindi debut with "Phir Mohabbat". His 2013 breakthrough, "Tum Hi Ho", earned him his first Filmfare Award. Beyond his range in romantic and high-energy tracks, Singh is a skilled composer, music producer, and instrumentalist. His multi-faceted contributions have garnered numerous accolades, cementing his influence across India’s diverse musical landscape.
