SGPC Backs Diljit Dosanjh's Film "Punjab 95" Amid Censor Board Controversy

Diljit Dosanjh Jaswant Singh Khalra Biopic Punjab 95 CBFC Obstacle in Release: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has extended its full support to Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming film Punjab 95, a biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.

The film has been embroiled in controversy due to objections from the Censor Board, which has called for 120 cuts, a title change, and alterations to the portrayal of Khalra’s character. The board has suggested renaming the film to Satluj.

The SGPC's endorsement has amplified attention to the film and its significance in portraying Khalra's life and fight for human rights.

The organization's support highlights the ongoing debate over creative freedom in Indian cinema, particularly when it comes to telling real-life stories that carry historical and social weight.

The SGPC has firmly opposed the Censor Board's demands, advocating for the film to retain its original title and content.

The controversy has sparked broader conversations about the challenges faced by filmmakers in addressing sensitive subjects while maintaining artistic integrity.
