“The Ultimate Sunidhi Live Concert”: Goa authorities direct organizers to avoid songs “Beedi Jalaile” and “Sharabi”

“The Ultimate Sunidhi Live Concert”: Goa authorities have issued an advisory to the organisers and managers of “The Ultimate Sunidhi Live Concert”, directing them to refrain from playing songs such as “Beedi Jalaile” and “Sharabi”, and to ensure that the event remains child-appropriate, as children as young as five years have been permitted to attend.

The concert is proposed to be held at 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium, Verna, Goa, on January 25, 2026.

The directive was issued on January 23, 2026, by the Office of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), South Goa, to the manager of the Goa stadium and to the organisers/event management team of The World Legends Pro T20 League, Gurugram, Haryana.

“This office deems it appropriate to issue the present preventive advisory in the interest of child protection and welfare, in view of the upcoming live music event,” the advisory stated.

Citing information available in the public domain, District Child Protection Officer Amanda Augusta Noronha said the programme permits entry to children aged five years and above, and concerns have been raised regarding the possible performance of certain popular songs by singer Sunidhi Chauhan, namely “Beedi Jalaile” and “Sharabi”. The advisory noted that these songs are widely perceived to glorify the use of tobacco products and alcohol, respectively.

The advisory referred to Section 3(iv) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which lays down the Principle of Best Interest of the Child, mandating that all actions and decisions concerning children must prioritise their physical, emotional, moral and psychological well-being.

It further stated that exposure of children to public performances that normalise or glorify tobacco and alcohol consumption can have a negative and lasting influence on children and adolescents, and is inconsistent with the objectives of the JJ Act, 2015.

The office also cited a Punjab and Haryana High Court judgment dated July 22, 2019, which observed that such songs have an adverse impact on children, thereby placing a responsibility on organisers and performers to act with due sensitivity when children are present.

In view of these concerns, and “purely as a preventive measure”, the District Child Protection Unit, South Goa, has directed the organisers and managers to refrain from permitting the performance of “Beedi Jalaile”, “Sharabi”, or any other song that promotes or glorifies tobacco or alcohol consumption during the concert, considering the presence and accessibility of children at the event.

The organisers have also been advised to ensure that the programme content remains “child-appropriate, socially responsible, and in conformity with child protection principles and statutory safeguards”.

“This advisory is issued in good faith, with the objective of preventing any potential adverse impact on children and to ensure that the event is conducted in a manner consistent with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015,” it added.
