NEW-DELHI: In a turn of events that has garnered significant attention, Elvish Yadav, the wildcard entrant who sparked controversy by referring to the farmers movement as a 'money-driven movement,' has clinched the title of winner for Bigg Boss OTT 2. The popular YouTuber and social media influencer's victory comes with a grand prize of Rs 25 lakh and the prestigious Bigg Boss trophy.
After days of anticipation and speculation, the climax of Bigg Boss OTT 2 arrived yesterday as the winner of the reality show was unveiled. Elvish Yadav, also affectionately recognized as 'Rao Sahib' within the show, stood as the triumphant participant, securing the coveted winner's trophy. In addition to the esteemed accolade, he was awarded a cash prize of 25 lakhs. The first runner-up position was secured by Abhishek Malhan, with Manisha Rani clinching the third spot.
Elvish Yadav, aged 24 and hailing from Gurugram, boasts immense popularity as a YouTuber and social media sensation. Embarking on his career in 2016, he now commands three YouTube channels and boasts an impressive following of 13 million on Instagram. However, his recent victory has been marred by prior controversial remarks concerning the farmers' movement in India.
Approximately two years ago, during a time when farmers were vigorously protesting against the implementation of three agricultural laws in Delhi, Elvish Yadav voiced his dissenting views by labeling the movement as a means to seek financial gains. He controversially stated that farmers were resorting to protests to fulfill their monetary demands and questioned whether the government would acquiesce to their purportedly "unlawful" demands.
This perspective had stirred debate and sparked outrage, earning him both criticism and support from various quarters of society. It has now resurfaced in light of his victory in the reality show, reigniting discussions on the role of public figures in shaping and reflecting public sentiment.
