India Creates History, Rajamouli’s 'Naatu Naatu' from RRR Receives Oscar 2023
'Naatu Naatu' became the first song from any Indian film to win in the Best Song Category
LOS ANGELES: The Song 'Naatu Naatu' from SS Rajamouli’s film 'RRR' has created history by winning the Oscar in the category of Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. It had defeated the other nominees in the category which included Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Pather Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
Telugu song 'Naatu Naatu' is composed by MM Keeravaani and sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. 'Naatu Naatu' means 'to dance'. The song is picturized on actor Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, in which their dance moves have also been highly appreciated. Notably, Music director MM Keeravaani accepted the award at Los Angeles. The song has created history as it became the first song from any Indian film to win in the Best Song category.
Significantly, 'Naatu Naatu' song from RRR had won the Golden Globes in the Best Original Song category, and also clinched the Best Song at the 28th edition of the Critics Choice Awards.
Talking about the film, it managed to break records in the first weekend. It even did extremely well till the second weekend. The Movie was considered hit at the silver screen.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (March 13) extended congratulations to music director M.M. Keeravani and lyricist Chandra Bose after their song 'Naatu Naatu' from the Telugu film "RRR" clinched the Oscar award.
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, "Exceptional! The popularity of 'Naatu Naatu' is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations to @mmkeeravaani, @boselyricist and the entire team for this prestigious honour."
Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi congratulates Naatu Naatu team and tweeted, "The song India danced to has truly gone global! Congratulations @mmkeeravaani, @boselyricist and the entire RRR team for winning the Best Original Song at the Oscars for #NaatuNaatu."
Bollywood star Ajay Devgn extended congratulations to Oscar winners. He tweeted, "As it is often said, cinema speaks a universal language. Congratulations to the teams of #RRR and #TheElephantWhisperers for their #Oscar wins. It’s a proud moment"
Congratulating the RRR team, actress Kangana Ranaut tweeted,"Congratulations to entire India. movie about suppression, torture, killing, colonisation of Indians based on racial grounds gets appreciated on a world platform."

Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga's ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the award for Best Documentary Short Film at the Oscars 2023. The film shows the story of an unbreakable bond between an orphaned elephant 'Raghu' and his caretakers 'Bomman and Bellie'.
Besides this, ‘Haulout’, ‘The Martha Mitchell Effect’, ‘Stranger at the Gate’, and ‘How Do You Measure a Year’ were also nominated in the category. The 30-minute-long film ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ was released at Netflix on December 8, 2022.
