BJP MP Meets Amit Shah, Flags Rs 1.10 Lakh Crore Debt Burden in Himachal
Financial mismanagement and corruption have brought development to a halt in Himachal, Congress government has burdened the state under debt: Harsh Mahajan. Congress government a complete failure in disaster management, politics over central aid and nepotism dominate relief distribution: Harsh Mahajan
Shimla. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan paid a courtesy call on Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his office in Parliament House. During the meeting, the current political, economic, and administrative situation in Himachal Pradesh was discussed in detail. Harsh Mahajan briefed the Union Home Minister at length on the conditions that have arisen during the Congress government's tenure in the state, including financial mismanagement, corruption, stalled development work, and the state of disaster management.
Harsh Mahajan said that financial discipline has completely collapsed in the state since the Congress government came to power. He said the government, without any foresight, has pushed the state under a heavy burden of debt. He said the Congress government has so far taken loans exceeding Rs 1.10 lakh crore, yet development work in the state remains completely stalled. Work related to roads, drinking water, health, education, and other infrastructure has slowed down, while the public is not benefiting from any new development schemes.
He alleged that under the current Congress government, the Chief Minister's Office has become a hub of corruption. Most corruption cases surfacing in the state appear to be directly linked to the Chief Minister's Office. He said it is deeply unfortunate that Congress's own leaders are referring to the current government as the "suitcase government." This makes it clear that corruption is not merely an opposition allegation, but there is serious discontent within the Congress party itself over the government's functioning. He remarked sarcastically that "there was a time when corruption in Congress rule travelled on a scooter, but now that same corruption travels in a suitcase."
Harsh Mahajan said the Congress government has also proven to be a complete failure in disaster management in Himachal Pradesh. The government has neither prior preparedness nor any concrete action plan. After every disaster, the Congress government merely blames the central government to hide its own failures. He said the central government has generously provided financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh from time to time, but the state government has failed to use those funds effectively and transparently.
He alleged that funds received in the name of disaster relief have not reached the actual affected families. Instead of transparency in relief distribution, favouritism and nepotism were given priority. He said many disaster-affected families are still waiting for assistance, while allegations continue to surface that Congress workers and favourites are being given priority in relief distribution. This has completely eroded public trust in the government.
Harsh Mahajan said he urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to seriously look into the situation in Himachal Pradesh and ensure that assistance provided by the central government reaches the genuinely eligible people. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the central government will continue to extend all possible cooperation for the development, disaster relief, and public welfare of Himachal Pradesh, while the state government too should discharge its responsibilities with full transparency and accountability.
