Himachal Pradesh Steps Up HS Vaccination Drive, 12,000 Animals Covered in Hamirpur

60,000 doses rolled out in district-wide free vaccination drive

About 12,000 animals have already received an extensive vaccination campaign against Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS), a disease that may kill cattle and buffaloes in as little as eight hours, according to officials on Monday.

In order to protect livestock from HS, also known as Galghotu, a deadly bacterial disease that affects cattle and buffaloes, the Animal Husbandry Department is running a vaccination campaign. According to a department spokesperson, "livestock owners must ensure timely vaccination for their cows and buffaloes." The disease is characterized by high fever, significant throat swelling, and fast death, sometimes within 8 to 24 hours. According to Dr. Sujay Sharma, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, prompt vaccination is essential for shielding animals from fatal illnesses such as hemorrhagic septicemia.

"Owners of livestock must make sure that their cows and buffaloes receive their vaccinations on schedule. According to Dr. Sujay Sharma, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department in Hamirpur, prompt vaccination is essential for shielding animals from fatal illnesses like hemorrhagic septicemia.

Phased free vaccination programs are being implemented in the district's rural and urban areas. Approximately 60,000 vaccination doses have been delivered to the department for the August campaign.

During the rainy season, HS spreads quickly, and animals may die if treatment or immunization is delayed, according to officials. Vaccination is thought to be a successful way to stop the illness. Every vaccinated animal's details are being posted online on the "Bharat Pashudhan" portal to guarantee openness and efficient campaign monitoring.

Real-time vaccination drive monitoring, easier vaccination record management, and the preservation of animal health data for future use are all made possible by the digital records. According to officials, the device also enables the agency to regularly monitor the campaign's progress.
