The safety guide simplifies complex digital security concepts alongside explaining statutory consumer rights under Indian laws.
Safer Internet India in collaboration with major e-commerce corporation Amazon released a comprehensive consumer safety handbook titled Guide For Safe Online Shopping on Saturday. The initiative aims to educate digital buyers about recognizing, preventing, and protecting themselves against rampant e-commerce fraudulent activities nationwide.
The handbook addresses prevalent online shopping threats including deceptive counterfeit websites, malicious phishing links, fake delivery notifications, empty delivery box scams, and fake customer support channels. It additionally highlights psychological pressure tactics like false limited time offers and unauthorized subscription renewals targeting vulnerable internet users.
Designed to enhance consumer awareness, the safety guide simplifies complex digital security concepts alongside explaining statutory consumer rights under Indian laws. It outlines clear grievance redressal mechanisms, practical preventative measures, and official helpline contact procedures for victims seeking immediate administrative remedies following online financial deception.
Highlighting the importance of user awareness, Amazon Vice President Rohan Oommen stated that emerging digital shoppers across smaller towns require active guidance. He revealed that Amazon helped identify and eliminate over 70,000 fraudulent websites while launching verification tools like verify@amazon.com for validating suspicious communications.
Industry experts emphasize that technical protective infrastructure must be complemented by informed consumer behavior to achieve maximum online security. The joint handbook initiative represents a strategic effort toward building digital trust and safeguarding Indian consumers as national e-commerce participation expands rapidly.
