Veteran actor, known for his powerful screen presence across Hindi, Telugu and Tamil cinema, dies after cancer battle

Actor Pradeep Rawat, who won hearts with his outstanding performances in several successful films including "Lagaan," "Ghajini," "Insaaf," and "Chhaava," passed away at the age of 74. The news of his demise was shared by his "Lagaan" co-star Yashpal Sharma.

Sharing the news of the "Ghajini" fame actor's death, Yashpal Sharma wrote on his official Instagram account, "Pradeep Rawat... our Deva from Ghajini and Lagaan, rest in peace." His post has left Pradeep Rawat's fans deeply saddened, with many paying tribute to the actor on social media.

Pradeep Rawat predominantly worked in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil films. He began his career in 1985 with Dimple Kapadia's film "Aitbaar," after which he appeared in films such as "Meri Jung," "Aap Ke Saath," "Samundar," "Kaash," "Insaaf," and "Mar Mitenge." His last Hindi film was "Chhaava" alongside Vicky Kaushal, in which he played the role of Yesaji Kank.
Rawat had been undergoing cancer treatment and was first admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, before later being shifted to a cancer care facility in Bhiwandi. He breathed his last on Tuesday evening around 6 pm while receiving treatment.

For many viewers, Rawat first became a familiar face through BR Chopra's legendary TV series "Mahabharat," where he portrayed Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya — a role that remains etched in the memory of the show's audience.
